Upcoming Special Events for JPMGC: A Busy Summer JPMGC
Co-Sponsoring June 8 Charity Event to Benefit First Tee of Greater Seattle

Jackson Park Men’s Golf Club, along with the Jackson Jills Golf Club, is co-sponsoring an inaugural charity event on Saturday, June 8, at Jackson Park to benefit First Tee of Greater Seattle.

We invite you to play, sponsor, donate money and/or volunteer to support this special event.

The 1st Annual Family and Friends Charity Classic is a two-person scramble for family members (by blood or law) and friends, emphasizing fun, camaraderie and supporting the local chapter of First Tee, which impacts the lives of young people from all backgrounds by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. First Tee runs programs at Jackson Park throughout the year, serving several hundred local youth annually.

This new event is loosely modeled after the popular PNC Championsh ip, an annual event in December featuring professional golfers who have won major championships and a family member in two-person teams. It also fills a gap in the JPMGC weekend tournament calendar between the May 18 Two-Man Best Ball and the June 22-23 Jackson Classic.

Numerous prizes will be offered, along with multiple flights, although again, the event is intended for purposes beyond competition. Golfers of all skill and experience levels are welcome to participate, on the tees they feel comfortable playing.

As of mid-May, registration numbers were rising, so we encourage you to sign up today as spots are limited.

For details, including registration, prizes, a list of sponsors, registration and more, please visit the event website:

If you’d like to sponsor, donate money and/or volunteer to help support the event, please contact tournament co-chairs Lee Jones or Jeff Schoening.

We hope to see you June 8!

July 23 Charity Classic Co-Sponsored by JPMGC
Will Raise Money for Harvest Against Hunger

Jackson Park Men’s Golf Club and Seattle Northeast Rotary are co-sponsoring the 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic benefiting Harvest Against Hunger, coming Tuesday, July 23 to Jackson Park.

This popular annual event in its first six years has raised more than $50,000 for Harvest Against Hunger, a 42-year-old Seattle based non-profit (a program of Rotary District 5030) that generates millions of pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables for Washington state food banks each year.

The format is a four-person team scramble; singles can sign up and will be placed on a team. Participants do not need to be JPMGC members, nor have a handicap. All are welcome. Tee times will be available throughout the day.

Fun features of this event include straight drive, closest-to-the-pin, putting and chipping contests; mulligans and throws; automatic two putts; and a jar raffle with over $1,200 in prizes.

There are many ways you can support this tournament: playing, sponsoring, donating items, book money or cash, or day-of volunteering.

Look for registration and other information coming soon.

Jackson Park Junior Golf Classic, Sponsored by JPMGC,
Coming Aug. 12 to Both JP Courses

by Dan Puetz Sr.
Organizer, Jackson
Park Junior Golf Classic

The 15th annual Jackson Park Junior Golf Classic will take place Monday, Aug. 12, at the two Jackson Park courses.

Sponsored by Jackson Park Men’s Golf Club and organized by longtime member and past president Dan Puetz Sr., the Jackson Junior offers youngsters an opportunity to experience quality golf competition in a low-key setting.

Boys and girls ages 5 to 12 will play 9 holes on the Jackson Park par-3 course, and those ages 13 to 17 play 18 holes on the regulation course, where boys play from the white tees and girls from the gold tees. Parents are encouraged to caddy and enjoy the day alongside their young golfers.

Over the previous 14 years of this popular event, more than 350 trophies and medals have been awarded, along with over 400 dozen golf balls, thanks largely to donations from JPMGC members.

Some great golf has been played at the Jackson Junior. The boys’ record at the regulation course is 67 (3 under par), held by Gabien Na of Lakeside High School from 2012 and the girls’ record is 72 (even par) shot in 2014 by Sarah Lee, niece of JPMGC member Daniel Lee. Grayson Giboney (2013) and Daniel Kim (2014) share the 9-hole short-course record of 29 (2 under par).

Also of note, 2011 Jackson Junior boys champion Joe Fryer went to win the Seattle Amateur in 2015 and later the Southern California Amateur in 2018 (a tournament whose past winners include Tiger Woods and Patrick Cantlay).

Many area high-school coaches consider the Jackson Junior an excellent competitive launch for the fall golf season.

All golf-playing youngsters from ages 5-17 are invited and encouraged to join their peers Aug. 12 for the Jackson Junior.

Look for registration and other information coming soon. For more on this event, contact Dan Puetz Sr.

Seattle Cup 2024 Scheduled for Weekends of Aug. 17-18, 24-25

by Brian Asplund
Seattle Cup Captain, Jackson Park Men’s Golf Club

The 2024 Seattle Cup is fast approaching! This annual Ryder Cup-style match play competition among men’s clubs of the four Seattle municipal golf courses will take place Aug. 17-18 and Aug. 24-25.

This is the 2023 Seattle Cup shirt design worn by JPMGC members. What will the 2024 version look like? Stay tuned…

All JPMGC members should have received an email earlier this spring outlining the format, dates and our selection criteria to participate. If you didn’t, please let me or one of the assistant captains know and we will send you a copy. The captains will be reaching out in the near future asking for your interest in participation; a response will be required for consideration because spots for the 24-member team are in high demand. Last year more than 50 members requested to play.

Jackson Park has been very competitive in the Seattle Cup over the last three years, winning in 2021 and finishing a close second in 2022 and 2023. We look forward to competing and bringing the cup back to Jackson Park this year!

One thing I am asking non-team members to do is to come out and support your JPMGC team. The Seattle Cup matches, particularly the ones later in the day, tend to have crowds following and watching the actions and it’s nice for players to know some of the crowd is supporting you. We look forward to seeing you out on the course!

For more information, contact the Seattle Cup captains Brian Asplund, Dave Foreman and Mark Ohrenschall.
